The Tradition - Lou Hei

My first Lou Hei for the New Year !
Saw a documentary on TV recently that Lou Hei (Yu Sheng) was first introduced by 3 Hong Kong Chefs in Singapore. It has become a must-have during the Lunar New Year now!

撈起?

What's that made of? ^^

yes, the cantonese version " 撈起" (",), also known as 鱼生.

The centre (main) is made up of shredded radish & carrot (the longer the better). It'll be surrounded by smaller portions of other ingredients (all shredded into long strips), such as preserved ginger, jelly fish, onions, pomelo, etc and in various colours! basically it's a vegetarian dish! However, because of 鱼生, we'll add raw fish/ salmon (in thin slices) on top. Then comes the crispy crakers (黄金满袋) all over the plate. We also add sesame, goundnut, plum sauce, pepper & cinnamon powder. Each item that we pour onto the plate, we'll usually say some 吉祥话.
The we begin the toss ! It is said that the higher you tossed (and while saying your 吉祥话), the more yr wish will come true.
U shld try =)
Yummy ... thinking of it makes me drool ...
