Someone sent me this and i find it a very useful reminder ...at least for me ... Hope it can help shed some light for others ...
Contents of the email received :
A group of alumni, highly established in their careers, got together to visit their old university lecturer. Conversation soon turned into complaints about stress in work and life. Offering his guests coffee, the lecturer went to the kitchen and returned with a large pot of coffee and an assortment of cups: porcelain, plastic,glass, some plain-looking and some expensive and exquisite, telling them to help themselves to hot coffee.
When all the students had a cup of coffee in hand, the lecturer said: "If you noticed, all the nice-looking, expensive cups were taken up, leaving behind the plain and cheap ones. While it is but normal for you to want only the best for yourselves, that is the source of your problems and stress. What all of you really wanted was coffee, not the cup, but you consciously went for the better cups and are eyeing each other's cups."
"Now, if Life is coffee, then the jobs, money and position in society are the cups. They are just tools to hold and
contain Life, but the quality of Life doesn't change." "Sometimes, by concentrating only on the cup, we fail to enjoy the coffee in it." So pls, don't let the cups drive you...enjoy the coffee

我以前都聽過,
但不是完全同意啊,
就似去餐廳食飯,
如果啲餐具和佈置好啲,
你都會覺得啲食物好食啲,
無錯人生嘅意義不在於一些表面東西,
但又不可以將這些"配套"完全不理,
因為我們都是人嘛,
人有物慾喜好和情緒,
邊度有人可以做咁超脫呢?
最緊要是做到平衡,
不要為一些次要的東西煩惱,
但又可以借用這些東西增添生活嘅樂趣! :)

Thanks for sharing the article which is very Zen-like. It's true. I wouldn't like a cup of nice coffee or latte in a plastic cup. I do agree in principle, however, that money, fame, etc are more like the means to an end, and not the end itself. So they should not be the primary drivers.

Gee time flies, and so coincidently, the day i write again falls on the same day 8 months ago where i last pen off.
Gee, i really wouldn't mind having a cup of nice coffee or latte in a plastic cup (some of the coffeeshops/ cafes uses styrofoam cups due to the heat) as long as they are tasty.
So you are a coffee drinker too? =)
